PRIMABENE® Sodium Hydroxide is a white, hygroscopic solid and is one of the strongest bases. It dissolves very well in water, releasing a large amount of heat, which results in a highly alkaline sodium hydroxide solution. Upon contact with carbon dioxide from the air, it reacts to form sodium bicarbonate. For this reason, PRIMABENE® Sodium Hydroxide should be stored in airtight containers. To prevent it from absorbing moisture from the air, it is advisable to store it together with a desiccant.
