The dark green powder contains all essential amino acids and provides vegan protein, high amounts of vitamin K, and natural antioxidants such as vitamin A and phycocyanin. Spirulina contains vitamin B12, which helps to reduce fatigue (4 g contains 0.8 mcg of vitamin B12 (recommended daily dose 34% NRV**) (**=% of the reference intake according to Regulation (EU) No. 1169/2011). Spirulina (Arthrospira) is a genus of cyanobacteria (formerly referred to as “blue-green algae”) and is found in highly alkaline salt lakes (pH between 9 and 11) as well as in freshwater.
Spirulina biomass is produced in open and closed aquaculture systems at a water temperature of up to 37 degrees Celsius. For harvesting, the culture is pumped through a filter or a continuous centrifuge, and the resulting biomass is then dried using hot air or sunlight. The dried biomass is subsequently pulverized.
