Stevia consists mainly of the diterpene glycoside stevioside. Steviosides have about 300 times the sweetness of sugar. 1 g of Stevia Stevioside Extract Powder is equivalent to approximately 300 g of sugar. Stevia, also known as sweet herb, is a mint-like plant native to the border region between Paraguay and Brazil. For centuries, the indigenous peoples of Brazil and Paraguay, especially the Guaraní Indians, have used Stevia rebaudiana both as a sweetener and a medicinal plant. In their language, they call it ka'a he'ê, which means "sweet herb," and use it to sweeten their mate tea.
